Teresa Berganza - Canciones EspanolasNarciso Yepes, Guitar
Felix Lavilla, Piano
This collection dates from the mid-1970s when Berganza was at her peak, the voice fresh, her artisty mature. In essence she provides here a history of Spanish song . . .
The collaboration with Narciso Yepes seems ideal, for he is an inspirational artist, while her husband, Félix Lavilla, provides the later piano accompaniments. This is not a specialist recital: the music communicates readily in the most direct way, and excellent notes and translations are provided. The balance is very natural and the CD transfers are immaculately managed. This is repertoire one first associates with Victoria de los Angeles, but Berganza makes it her own and there are not many more attractive Spanish song-recitals than this. --Record Review / The Penguin Guide to Compact Discs / 02.
