Stravinsky - Oedipus Rex - Kollo, Troyanos - Bernstein 1972

Stravinsky - Oedipus Rex - Kollo, Troyanos - Bernstein 1972

Performer: Ezio Flagello (Bass), Frank Hoffmeister (Tenor), René Kollo (Tenor),
Tom Krause (Baritone), Tatiana Troyanos (Mezzo soprano)
Conductor: Leonard Bernstein
Orchestra/Ensemble: Harvard Glee Club Choir, Boston Symphony Orchestra

This 1972 Oedipus Rex was recorded in conjunction with a lecture series at Harvard. Bernstein was in residence and lionized by the celebrity-awed university. I imagine that the use of the Harvard Glee Club was a polite gesture on the part of an honored guest, becasue these undergraduate males lower the standard of the performance every time they enter. The soloists include top-flight singers, especially the young Rene Kolllo as a superlative Oedipus. sounding fresh and strong, and Tatiana Troyanos as a touching, plaintive Jocasta. --Amazon cutomer
