This is a 1951 Met performance of the Ring with an impressive cast. The sound quality varies from one CD to the next (there are 11 CDs in all). Ferdinand Franz is excellent as Wotan. Kirsten Flagstad appears as Brunhilde in Die Walure and gives a decent, though not exciting, performance. Helen Traubel as Brunhilde in Gotterdamerung is wonderful. Her rendition of the immmolation of Brunhilde is quite moving and very well acted as well as sung. The conducting by Stiedry is a bit lacklustre... Set Svanholm as Siegfried does a great job and was a pleasant surprise as was the singing of Deszo Ernster as Hagen and as Fafner -- very well done....(New York -- January 27 and February 3, 10, and 17, 1951;
