Forget all the other sets of these symphonies!
Though it is not much mentionned in the medias, Gennady Rozhdestvensky is a great Sibelian (the violin concerto with Oistrakh is an example). In spite of this, his complete set of the seven symphonies by Sibelius is never listed anywhere in the various articles comparing the different recordings of the works, I do not undertstand why. Rozhdestvensky's conception is, in my opinion, more authentic, more scandinavian and more slavonic at the same time; in one word, more Sibelian.
These works have been recorded in the 60s-70s, and the Lps issued in the 70s. The sound is typical of the Soviet orchestras of that time. --Trouffie
