2008 four CD set. Lauritz Melchior portrays the great Danish heroic tenor and features his most famous roles, including Wagner's Tannhäuser and Siegmund (Valkyrie) and Verdi`s Othello. Apparently Melchior was capable of singing difficult roles from the beginning to the end of his career and was just as much at home performing a subtly nuanced, wide variety of tonal colors as he was interpreting extended, breathtaking legato lines. These recordings were made together with outstanding orchestras between 1923 and 1938. Melchior's voice was an unprecedented powerful tenor, simultaneously dark and brilliant and no-one has managed to succeed him to this very day.
